Biography of Kinga Malec
Kinga Malec is a dancer and choreographer. Born in Warsaw in 1988, she has got acquainted with various styles and techniques of dance since her early childhood. At the age of three she started training figure ice skating and classical ballet under the supervision of Montse Gras. One of her first successes include the first prize at the International Free Skating Competition in Spain in 1998. Along with ice skating, since the age of six she has been performing also traditional Polish folk dances with the ensemble Varsovia. During twelve years of her membership in Varsovia she has toured in Poland, France, Macedonia, Russia, Croatia and Italy (Vatican).
Still as a young girl she has discovered Indian dance, which has become her greatest passion. She has learnt bollywood dance, bharatnatyam and kathak. She was tutored privately by Magdalena Niernsee, as well as by some distinguished Indian masters including P. T. Narendran and Sanjib Bhattacharya during dance projects and workshops in Poland. Since several years she has been studying in India: at the Kathak Academy in Lucknow, under the supervision of the famous kathak master Pandit Arjun Mishra, as well as at the highly acclaimed Birju Maharaj’s International School of Dance 'Kalashram' in New Delhi. She is also very interested in Baroque court dance, modern and jazz dances. Her abilities are manifested also in music: she plays a few Indian instruments, like harmonium and hundred-stringed santoor, under the supervision of Pandit Tarun Bhattcharya.
Kinga Malec gives numerous performances in Poland and across Europe, as a solo dancer, as well as a member of the Mohini dance group. She has appeared at various cultural events and festivals of the Indian culture including Divali, Holi, The Independence Day of India, Indo-Polish Friendship Day. She has danced in concerts with artists like Dr. Maria Pomianowska and her Ensemble Polonais, Sandesh Popatkar, Avaneendra Sheolikar, Miguel Czachowski and his ensemble Indialucia. She is regularly being invited to perform at various programs on the Polish TV.
In addition to her performances, Kinga Malec is very active as a dance instructor, teaching at several schools in Warsaw (Mohini School of Indian Dance; NTF Studio for Oriental Dances and Flamenco; Salsa Libre Dance Studio), as well as at numerous workshops.
She is currently studying dance choreography at the Academy of Music in Lodz in Poland.
